Bands Not Bans: A Benefit for Abortion Access
By autumn of 2021 - several months before the fall of Roe v. Wade - abortion access was already wildly inaccessible to Texas women due to SB8. And I was furious about it.
So instead of feeling helpless or screaming into the void, I decided to use my skills and connections to raise funds for Fund Texas Choice, a local nonprofit helping women in need of abortions travel, usually out of state, to places where they can legally access the healthcare they need.
I rolled up my event-planning sleeves, called some of my favorite female-fronted bands in Austin, and worked with an array of local businesses to organize a kick-ass raffle.
Between the door, raffle, and donations, we raised several thousand dollars and a boatload of awareness and appreciation for the overworked and overlooked folks at Fund Texas Choice.
